worked in a hotel while studying tourism. Her first participation in a
beauty pageant was as a student representing her school for Miss
Intramurals and Miss Milo Olympics. Her first professional beauty
contest was at the age of 17 in 2003. Her next major foray was in 2006
when she appeared in the Miss Cebu pageant.
Early Stage of Life
Karla was born in 1996 in Limay town of the Philippines. In her tender
age, she was raised by her grandparents. Later she went to reside with
her family in Tsawwassen, Canada. Even then, she regularly visited the
Philippines every summer and Christmas. When the family first returned
to the Philippines, they first lived in Albay, Bicol for a year.
Thereafter they made Cebu their permanent residence. She was pursuing
her tourism studies when she decided to join the Miss Earth pageant.
In her early days, Karla was not much interested in modeling and beauty
pageants. However, while in college, her interest grew in these areas.
She had a couple of modeling assignments and was very much appreciated.
Gradually she cultivated more skills and moved up on the ladder of
success. Her raw talent and determination were the factors which helped
her win the Miss Earth 2008 title.
